Description

PepsiCo is looking for novel proteins, peptides and amino acids that provide solutions for specific health benefits especially in the areas of weight management and muscle development/retention/repair. Other benefits of interest are heart health, sports performance, cognition, digestion, satiety, hormonal management, and overall wellness.

Background

Proteins are typically consumed as a required macro nutrient for our diets. However, recent developments in this space show they could be more than a macro nutrient. PepsiCo is looking for proteins, peptides, and amino acids that could be consumed for specific health needs across different human life stages.

Key Success Criteria

Must-Haves

  • Minimal / no impact on taste and texture of the powder and liquid beverage applications.
  • Clinical evidence to show the unique value of the ingredient.
  • GRAS or CFR compliance for food and beverage applications.
  • Clear route to commercialization.

Nice-to-Haves

  • "Clean Label", i.e. easy to pronounce and common names (e.g. familiar, "kitchen" ingredients are highly desirable and avoid chemical-sounding ingredients).
  • Clarity in solution in low and high-acid environments.
  • Heat stable
  • Non-GMO
  • Commercially available
Preferred Collaboration types

Sponsored Research, Co- development, Material Transfer

Collaboration with PepsiCo R&D technical teams to evaluate the ingredients in consumer-facing products and provide insights into what is needed for successful commercialization of PepsiCo products.

Additionally, PepsiCo can offer access to internal experts for support on secondary clinical studies.

Additional Information

PepsiCo is open to receiving and testing samples, collaborating closely, and providing feedback to improve ingredients if needed. PepsiCo can also arrange onsite meetings and tastings. Access to PepsiCo labs or pilot plants will not be given.

Timing: This would be a H2/H3 initiative with 2-3 year timeline for potential product launches.

TRL- Level – 5-9

Funding: Up to $60,000 funding for potential trials at pilot plants for production of consumer products.
